Depression Counseling – How To Find It
Sometimes, clinical depression can be hard to diagnose, and it is not something a person can independently figure out for themselves. Also, due to television advertisements, many also make the mistake of wanting to immediately jump to prescription medications. Still, they find it difficult to find a psychiatrist that does not have an extensive waiting list. There is a way to gradually seek help.
If a person is looking for depression counseling, they need to start with a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). This type of professional can help with counseling and creating a plan for behavioral modification. Also, a LCSW knows the clinical symptoms for depression and related conditions, and they can produce a referral to a psychiatrist. After all, a LCSW cannot prescribe medication.
There is an easier way of thinking about this dynamic. Most times, when people feel sick, they go to their family physician first, who works through all the common symptoms. If they cannot solve the problem, then they produce the referral to a specialist. The person hardly every goes to the pulmonary or cardiac doctor first. In mental health, it is exactly the same. In many cases, a psychiatrist will only prescribe medication. A LCSW actually provides most of the day-to-day therapy.
