Fighting Depression Tips

Fighting Depression

Fighting depression can be done in many ways, and it is usually done by a commitment made between a doctor and the patient.  The disease can have many different variables, and also has many symptoms that effect the suffer.  A book called the diagnostic and statistical manual details these symptoms in detail.  However, fighting off this disease is usually accomplished in two very popular methods.  The methods are called cognitive therapy, which implements changes in how the person thinks, and through the use of antidepressants.

Most of the time, cognitive therapy is used in conjunction with medicine aimed at fighting depression.  This is the best combination for the patient, as some of the medicines that are prescribed for this disease can take up to six weeks to work.  Quite often, it is during this period of adjusting to the medicine, that the therapist is able to develop a plan for correcting the patients thought processes.  This is sort of a behavioral modification, so that when the medication does start to work, the patient may not be as inclined to stop taking it, which is so often the case when one is merely put on meds without the combined therapy model.
