Light Therapy For Depression
There is help available for those individuals suffering from seasonal affective disorder. Light therapy for depression has been shown to be quite beneficial for many individuals that become increasingly depressed during the long dark months of fall and winter. With ongoing exposure to high impact light sources, a significant improvement in mood can be obtained.
Many people invest in what is called a lighting box. This device usually consists of a panel of bulbs on either side of a flat surface. An individual that is affected with seasonal affective disorder will sit in front of their light box for a specific amount of time each day. Some individuals find that utilizing their lighting box throughout the day provides even greater benefit. This ongoing exposure to high impact lighting lifts the spirits and improves the overall general outlook on life.
Whether it is from an increased serotonin level or just an increased sense of well being, many people find that their depression either subsides or at least becomes more manageable. Their world does not appear quite so hopeless, and they tend to feel a higher energy level as well. Ongoing light therapy can provide substantial reward for those willing to make the effort.
